EricSocia.net Finally Has A PageRank!!

Now, I don’t know when it happened, but I’m certainly not complaining.

I was over at Technomoney.net a moment ago, and was reading one of Ruchir’s previous posts about his update to a PR4, and I remembered that the last time I had checked (months ago), EricSocia.net still had a pagerank of zero. So, for the hell of it, I went on over to prchecker.info and inputted my url, and BANG! I’m informed that my site has a PR2

While this may not be extremely exciting to anybody else, I’m ecstatic. In fact, it makes me want to keep this website running for another year once this years registration is up. Who knows? Maybe this will work out after all. Now all I need to do is figure out what to do with the site.

I’m sure I’ll figure something out eventually. Have a great day everyone!

Smooth Operator: My Dual-Booting Experience

I recently had some problems with my Ubuntu 7.10 installation on my HP Pavillion. I therefore decided to bite the bullet and just wipe it clean and dual-boot Vista and Ubuntu. I was, however, worried that I would encounter a bunch of problems in doing so, since I seem to be so prone to that kind of thing. To my delightful suprise, however, I ran into absolutely zero issues, and the installation for both Vista and then the secondary installation of Ubuntu 7.10 went completely smooth. Both OS’s are running perfectly and I’m thoroughly enjoying the fact that I can now boot into whichever one I like, depending on my needs at the time.
For instance, Ubuntu does not currently have support for syncing my particular Windows Mobile 6 Pocket PC, but Windows Vista does so without a hitch. On the other hand, Vista is fairly bulky and not as customizable as Ubuntu. Linux is, in my opinion, much more fun to use anyway. I love being able to easily find and install, or compile from source, completely free applications that were created by everyday people like myself. And yet, Windows operating systems are the target OS for tons and tons of PC video games that I’d love to try out. Sure, I could run Windows apps and games in VirtualBox from within Ubuntu, but that uses a lot more memory than simply booting into Windows and running those programs/games right inside their native OS.
In any case, I just wanted to point out to everyone that it certainly IS possible to dual-boot Windows Vista AND Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) without ANY problems whatsoever. I’ve done it, and you can, too. :)

Upsetting News From The OLPC Front Lines

I don’t have time right now for a full update, but I just HAD to post a link to this article. Apparently, a Nigerian-owned company called LANCOR has filed a lawsuit against Nicholas Negroponte and the OLPC Association for patent infringement regarding “Multilingual Keyboard Technology.” This is very disturbing news. If LANCOR wins this, they could put a stop to the distribution of OLPC’s in struggling countries, and even possibly stop it altogether.

Full Story

EDIT: Well, that was quick… I just heard from a friend that this is bunk… check this link… http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20080103211653578

How To Be A Neglectful Blogger In One Easy Step

  1. COMPLETELY forget that you even have a blog/website for a good long time, and then remember, and come back to it, and write a post about how neglectful you’ve been.
  2. (OK, so there are two steps) Apologize profusely

Wow. I’m soooo sorry to those of you who’ve stuck around and kept coming back, and to those of you who’ve continuously left comments on the past few posts, and even some on older posts. I’m terribly, terribly, ridiculously sorry. I simply have no excuse whatsoever. I bought a new Pocket PC phone with an incredibly addicting Sprint plan that includes unlimited texts, unlimited data, etc., and 500 anytime minutes, all for just 30 bucks a month. MY PHONE HAS BEEN EATING MY LIFE AWAY SINCE THEN.

It’s absolutely amazing how obsessed I get with things, thus leading me to forget about other things.

To try and explain:

My phone is an HTC Titan, dubbed by Sprint as the HTC Mogul. It’s, as I said, a Pocket PC loaded with Windows Mobile 6. It is the most amazing thing I’ve owned so far. I can do just about anything with it. Currently, I’m using it to read the Bible. Yes, the entire Bible. No, I don’t consider myself Christian. Although I’m starting to think it may be time to give Christianity another shot. But that’s completely besides the point. The point, my friends, is that I am a slave to technology. And when I get my hands on something new (like my new phone) I simply cannot put it down and keep up with the other things in my life. At least, not at first. But as you can see, I’ve realized my mistake, and here I am.

I promised in a previous post that I would be here more often, typing out new stuff for y’all to read. I am sorry that I didn’t keep that promise. This time, I promise to simply try harder. I’ve realized that’s about all I can do at this point. Try.

I’m also up for a promotion at work, and that’s been kind of stressing me out a little bit. Getting prepared for interviews and whatnot.

So. With that out of the way…

How’s everyone doing? Anything exciting happening or already happened that I’ve missed?
